This is a really interesting one. A Fen side project released on one of my favorite black metal labels, Eisenwald, Fellwarden are a truly magnificent artsy black metal project. This duo have crafted music that is almost cinematic in scope and draws the listener across bold soundscapes rich with color. Inspired by the beauty of the north of England, Wreathed In Mourncloud is a poetic and elegant project. This is a record that can't help but to fascinate and elate the listener as we delve into the amber waves of their sound.
Wreathed In Mourncloud gets me time and time again because of the sheer vastness of the compositions here. This is a record that doesn't mess around - it eagerly unpacks countless layers and shows us a world apart. The magic of this band comes in their soaring guitars and the massive dath growls contrasted with open throated cleans. The way that the band conjures up epic imagery in a track like 'An Elder Reckoning' is simply stunning. It speaks to the bands ability to continually push themselves forward as they craft deeply emotional music that leaves me continually in awe of what's been done here.
It's so easy to lose yourself in this record. Fellwarden have done a fantastic job of painting a unique tapestry that you are going to love, a tapestry that continually adds new layers. You can come back to Wreathed In Mourncloud time and time again to keep finding bold new vistas. This is a record that winds its way into your heart and reminds listeners exactly why we all fell in love with this music in the first place. Wreathed In Mourncloud is simply masterful and if you can't embrace its elegant poetry you're missing out.
