Aleynmord have really blazed a path of fury for the past few years, marking themselves as powerful new band in the black metal underground. Their ferocious assault and the high power attack of their new record, The Blinding Light is accentuated by shrieked vocals, potent production and a sense that the band is as tight as they can possibly be. It's the sort of record that you start to feel the magic of, that captures the imagination and which time and time again sees you delving deep into the darkest pits of the underground.
This is a really thrilling record simply because of the raw energy that the band bring to the table. There is a freshness, a dynamism that serves to make this compelling, that speaks to the listener and which eagerly sallies forth into the tormented dreamscape from which The Blinding Light was initially conjured up. This record mesmerizes because of the wall of sound production, elegant execution and the willingness to conjure up ever darker soundscapes. There is a sense of grim humanity that permeates a track like 'Wounded Monolith' that will leave listeners scraping their jaws off the floor, trying to full comprehend the poetry of what's been done here.
As a general rule this is a strong opening salvo for Aleynmord. The Blinding Light is exactly what it needed to be, deeply emotional, thoughtful and eager to double down on the things that make this band so special in the first place. There are some truly excellent compositions here and it's a lot of fun to see how the band has been able to develop this over the past few years. This debut offering is emotional and powerful. It's a thrilling offering and one that hints at the shape of what's to come. If you're looking for a brash black metal offering to get you through the day - say no more fam.
