Plague Throat-An Exordium to Contagion

Vicious riffs, an unforgiving attack, unforgettable drive, these are the things that make death metal so good and that give it power. Yet so many forget this and instead put in more artsy and progressive elements, and while this may not be bad persay, their is still something to be said for absolute and unforgiving brutality of the highest order. Music from people who have seen true desperation and view death metal as their only redemption from a twisted world. This is exactly what the Indians in Plague Throat offer in their new EP, An Exordium to Contagion.

The thing that sets this record apart is the unforgiving grind of tracks like Sinking Higher, there is simply so much glorious brutality that can not be dismissed here. The thing is, these guys are not brutal for the sake of being brutal, in fact their own brand of heaviness just seems like a natural extension on the musicians themselves. The brutality never feels forced, only destructive and pummeling. The way these guys embrace evil in such a natural way seems very representative of the Indian scene in general. Plague Throats unforgiving hatred is not something that you will quickly forget and the crazy riffs on songs like Burn represent all of the sheer metal might that these guys are able to conjure on their stunning debut.

In conclusion, this is just another record that proves how great the Indian scene is. Their rapidly budding wave of groups understand how to make truly heavy music and see the harshness of life every day. If your looking for an EP that really encapsulates all that is good about this scene then An Exordium to Contagion is where you need to look. A band who really know what they want to do and how to do it their future development should be impressive, especially if they can keep up the same unchecked and glorious aggression.
