Lamentations of the Ashen-EKIMMV

One of the things that I think makes this blog special is the dedication to the underground. Some days I have the opportunity to cover some pretty huge acts, but instead cover something obscure and fantastic. Today is one such day. I bring you EKIMMV from the blackened doom metal project Lamentations of the Ashen. A unique blend of black metal, doom metal and post rock magic, with EKIMMV Lamentations of the Ashen soundly prove that it is at the top of the modern doom metal scene with a sound that will ring out across the ages.

One of the first things that will strike you about this record is the sheer sadness of this album. Their is a bleak and unapologetic hatred found throughout this album. The dark desperation gives the entire record a unique and powerful vibe, showcasing the internal magic that the genre has. More than that, the compositions are simply excellent. The longer pieces in particular showcase the talent of Lamentations of the Ashen's sole songwriter. This is proof of how a one man project can have just as much, if not more, emotional power than a standard four or five man metal band. Bon Vincent Fry, the genius behind the record, is clearly one of the greatest geniuses behind one of metals coolest scenes.

Blackened doom metal is starting to rise up and after years of sorrow, is finally starting to take its rightful place in the black metal scene. There is a glut of top notch bands and projects which are driven by powerful emotions and blazing riffs. Yet Lamentations of the Ashen has something more. A certain blackness, an internal evil that very few of Fry's contemporaries can really compete with. EKIMMV is great because it reaches out and touches the soul. This is black metal that finds both unending rage and incredible beauty, for trve metallers across the globe, EKIMMV is a record for the ages.
