Nashville Pussy - Ten Years of Pussy

There is a certain magic to Nashville Pussy. I mean - these guys represent a sort of zenith in rock and roll absurdity - at least until Black Pussy came along and shot all forms of political correctness to hell. The point is that Ten Years of Pussy proves that Nashville Pussy have really come of age and found their own role in the world of heavy music. There is a sense of gleeful absurdity - fatalistic partying that we all know will end in death. Yet with twenty two songs we get a fun little summary of one of rocks hardest partying bands.

One thing that Ten Years of Pussy turned me on to was the diversity of the bands discography. Sure - the classics shine through, but I didn't realize that the band was capable of this much. It's made me realize that I need to go back and pick these guys apart. They're fun, and yet there's also something really intelligent underneath keeping things accessible and dynamic. It's kind of like Steel Panther only grittier and more. The live CD further boosted my respect for this band. I hadn't realized that they were able to put on such a dynamic and fun live show. It made a casual fan like me lust to see the live - what more could a band seek to achieve?

At the end of the day you can't deny that this is a great compilation by SPV. Regardless of how you feel about this band you have to acknowledge that Nashville Pussy have been able to capture the zeitgeist of their music. It's a hard thing to compress ten years of hard rocking in just two CD's but somehow the band and SPV have been able to do it - proving that these guys are ready to take on the world for another decade or five. Nashville Pussy may not be the band you want, but they are the one our scummy culture deserves
