There is a profound darkness that attracts me to Sailing The Seas Of Fate and is a key part to what made it so inspiring to me when I was a kid. One thing that also strikes me is that even through the powerful and squirrely guitar work everything is perfectly produced. You hear every slide and ever intake of breath and it helps to make Sailing The Seas Of Fate to be wonderfully memorable and even more potent. You find yourself getting lost in stripped down soundscapes that speak to the fundamental state of man and show that at the end of the day we are nothing more than dust in the wind.
And so I close this chapter - once more reflecting upon the perpetual beauty of black metal and how this band - one of my favorites in the genre - so dramatically impacted my own music. Full aware of its own grandeur and yet always tasteful Sailing The Seas Of Fate carries you off to distant lands and gives you a chance to look into a different - and perhaps better world. One that guides you forward through the thorns and reminds us that black metal is perhaps the only truth we have left and it will always be there - brooding, evil, and beautiful.
