Inter Arma - Paradise Gallows

Inter Arma - holy shit - what a band. I mean I haven't seen them live in a hot minute, but that hasn't diminished how much their records mean to me.Their latest offering in their noble discography is Paradise Gallows, an album that dramatically increases all that Inter Arma was ever thought to be capable of. There is a wonderful inherent drama to what Paradise Gallows represents - and the expansion on the bands sound that you have here is absolutely stunning - suggesting that these guys still are getting better.

While with the bands last two records we saw an expansion on the 'moving mountains' sound, Paradise Gallows sees Inter Arma challenging themselves and building up to something very different, and something which could be called greater. They take all of their old mastery and infuse it with a variety of new sounds and elements that expand not just on Inter Arma's career but doom metal as a whole. In other words, Paradise Gallows is a step forward for the genre as whole. Inter Arma are infusing their music with something transcendent now, and it feels like they are closing their fists on their destiny.

Still - the band has a ways to go. I feel like Inter Arma regularly stun because of how much they develop between records. Paradise Gallows is another step forward in this journey. Inter Arma are absolute stunners and the more you delve into their unholy creation the more you have to admit to yourself - Paradise Gallows is one of the most important albums of the year. It shows an impressive way forward for an entire genre and with its top notch compositions reminds us why we fell i love with this band in the first place.
