Autopsy - Puncturing The Grotesque

The death metal masters are back, the band has been ridiculously been busy in the past few years and are presently releasing a mini album adjacent to a split with Bloodbath, given that on top of this we've had releases from the band in 2014 and 2015 it feels like we have an embarrassment of riches from the death metal masters. With some of their most exciting and destructive material to date Puncturing The Grotesque is a monster of a record that can't help but to continually blast through your skull time and time again.

I think what really gets me here is the swagger that Autopsy bring to the table, they know that they are among the best of the best and the deliver with authority. In a year that has seen countless of the bands peers coming forth with truly devastating music the December 15th release of Puncturing The Grotesque serves as a definitive end statement. With tracks that touch all aspects of Autopsy's legacy, from thrashier piece to knuckle dragging classics it's impossible to avoid the transcendence and bone crunching glory that Autopsy so eagerly bring to the table for us to enjoy time and time again. It's the inner fifteen year old we can never escape.

There is an ominous forward crunch behind Puncturing The Grotesque that reminds us we have not seen the last of Autopsy. Sure they've been around for thirty years, but it feels like if they keep putting out material this strong then there is no reason that they shouldn't try and make it for another thirty. This is a band who understand the devastating triumph of the genre and come for the throat, reminding us time and time again why we fell in love with this music in the first place. Autopsy helped form death metal and now they prove that it will never die.
