Noose Rot - The Creeping Unknown

This one is a goddamn monster. Sentient Ruin has put out some really good stuff in the last few years, and every once in a while they come up with something that really blows my fucking head off. The latest and greatest example of this is The Creeping Unknown, a masterful four song EP from Noose Rot, a death metal band who come at you with a sort of animalistic rage and who have the sort of gut fuckingly terrifying sense of musical triumph that very few of their peers would ever dare match up too.

The old school death metal assault of The Creeping Unknown is delicious. There is a sort of unforgiving wall of sound that leaves every bone in your body feeling broken and abused. I love it. There is a brutal truth behind the music here, a grinding madness counterbalanced with riffs that hint at slam, but all of which fit firmly into the world of demented and delicious death metal. It's exciting to see how with a mere four songs, Noose Rot is able to accomplish so much, how they are able to conjure up images of death metal decadence with just a few bars. The pulsating assault of a song like Worship The Crypt goes to show that with this style of death metal, the riff reigns above all.

Reminiscent of other bands blowing up right now like Outer Heaven or even Vastum, this is a stunning example of where death metal is at in 2018 and just how special it can be. This is a record that speaks to the twisted monster within all of us and which transcends the darker moments to craft something greater. Noose Rot are not just a supergroup, featuring members of Gatecreeper, Skeletonwitch and Wolvhammer, but they are a goddamn American treasure and one I hope continues conjuring up riffs for a long time to come.
