Carpathian Forest have always been one of my favorite black metal bands. Their unique brand of crazy and over the top black 'n' roll captured my imagination at a young age and they have never quite dismissed my fascination. The bloodthirsty assault of records like Fuck You All! is delicious and speaks to a band who were always at the top of their game. Of course now it's been twelve years since their last release and time has made the heart grow fonder. So getting to sink my teeth into a new seven inch from these masters is truly magnificent.
Now I know what you might be saying - since the band after all is just Nattefrost at this point are we going to get the classic Carpathian Forest sound that we all know and love? The answer is a resounding yes. Putting aside the fact that the band recorded an absolutely stellar cover of the Turbonegro classic All My Friends Are Dead, the original offering, the single Likeim is an absolute masterpiece, something that could sit proudly alongside any other track from the original black 'n' rollers. It reflects a step forward to be sure though, and I am very excited to see how this shakes out with the rest of the record.
Fun, bloodthirsty and wonderfully over the top, Carpathian Forest are back and ready to go for the throat. This is a black metal band who never cared what you thought of them and who were always willing to push things a little bit further. Likeim is just an appetizer for a lot of great music to come and the twisted and balls out majesty of this band is going to leave you with a smile on your face. Carpathian Forest never gave a fuck what you thought of them and this single goes to show that they are getting ready to take on the world.
