Torture Rack - Malefic Humiliation
OOGH, that's all there really is to be said about the almighty motherfucking Torture Rack. A friend turned me onto this band last year and I was immediately blown away by their balls out heaviness and unearthly power. Now they are back and fiercer than ever, the crushing torrent of riffs, punishing breakdowns and backbreaking assault of one of death metal sickest bands has reached its pinnacle on Malefic Humiliation and it's a fucking terrifying trip into the darkest side of a truly demented genre of music.
There is an undeniable sense of groove on Malefic Humiliation that makes Torture Rack so great. The pummeling assault is at times almost poetic. The brutarian stomp of a song like Masked In Leeches not only perfectly encapsulates the subject matter but also evokes images of longhaired knuckle draggers throwing their weight around in the pit. It makes for fascinating listening from a band who are chock full of exciting and over the top ideas. Torture Rack is heavy metal majesty at its finest evoking all the latent darkness of the genre and driving it to new heights with a manic pursuit for power you can't deny.
It's easy to get lost in all that is accomplished with Malefic Humiliation. Not only is this an album that reminds us about why we freak out over this stuff, but it is an album that represents some of the most exciting songwriting I have heard in a long while. Torture Rack, as musicians are off the chain, perfectly understanding their chosen genre and delivering it with a sense of panache of a band far older. The deep fascination so many have with this band comes from their sense of tortured brilliance and ability to build on the tropes of yore. Gotta love it.
