Dodsferd - Diseased Remnants of a Dying World

In the seventeen years since their formation Dodsferd have become one of the defining forces in the world of Greek black metal. they have jumped from peak to peak with all manner of emotionally potent and thrilling records that bring exciting and new life into the music. This latest offering Diseased Remnants Of A Dying World is one of the bands most dynamic releases to date, chock to the brim with powerful emotions and bound to make you well up in tears. Deeply emotive, this record is a sonic journey.

This is a dense listen but one that sees the band sound expand dramatically and which pushes their unique take on the genre to bold new heights. Diseased Remnants Of A Dying World draws you in with the dark canticles of album opener My Father, My Wrath and then drowns you in waves of black metal fury. This is a record that hints at interesting new directions for the band and also reminds us why we all fell in love with them in the first place. While nothing here really comes out of left field it's the sheer quality of the execution that matters and the mesmerizing qualities that the group has really pushed forward.

One particular little frill I'd like to shout out here is the quality of the bass tone. Throughout the album the sense of forward motion is defined by the excellent bass playing of Neptunus, but it is his tone that seems to really set him apart from the rest of the pack. It makes for a thrilling listen that can't help but to mesmerize and excite. This is Greek black metal at its finest with all sorts of nifty little strings attached. A triumph for the band and their label I am thrilled as to where they grow next.
