Bergraven - Det Feamlidna Minnet

Weird, jazzy and prog inspired black metal, Bergraven is not exactly your par for the course band. This is the sort o group who explore all sorts of different sonic highways and seem to constantly be pushing the boundaries of what extreme metal can be. These avant garde Swedes operate at the furthest possible edge of black metal bringing in a diverse range of influences to color their unique and frequently bizarre brand of black metal slaughter - and I can't help but to fall in love with it spin after spin.

What I appreciate about Bergraven that many of their peers lack is the sheer mass of their sound. I think a lot of the other avant garde black metal bands are a little bit too fragile for their own good, as if they could come apart in a gust of wind. Det Feamlidna Minnet doesn't peddle in that kind of shit. This is a band who come at you with brash black metal tones but a controlled approach interspersed with a variety of instruments and some truly visionary approaches to how they outline and fall in love with the sound. It's a weird and strange world to sink your teeth into but also one that seems ready to take the band to the next level.

Bergraven is a truly massive band and a band who seem dedicated to bringing their music to bold new heights with every new track. They have touched something transcendent and powerful on Det Feamlidna Minnet and it's hard not to fall in love with some of the larger than life soundscapes at play here. Bergraven are visionaries in their own right, unveiling vast new ideas and challenging expectations. In an era where black metal has embraced anything and everything, this somehow feels right.
