Ba'a - Deus Qui Non Mentitur

Another day, another excellent release from Osmose Productions. Ba'a is a stunning French black metal band who formed back in 2017. On their first full length they conjure up some potent sounds and showcase top notch production. The vast scope of their compositions borders on the intimidating and speaks to the bands incredible ability to conjure up demonic and potent sounds. Deus Qui Non Mentitur is a masterful offering, a record that seems to continually take the band to new heights and remind us just how good they are.

The atmospheres on this record are almost as much of a highlight as the twisted vocals and blasting passages. It makes for an album that has an impressive sense of emotional depth and seems to routinely force the listener to stare deeper into the void. Deus Qui Non Mentitur is a thriller in its ability to continually evoke demonic imagery and pull the listener ever further into the pit. The French lyrics are excellent and add another layer that helps to truly cement this band as one of the best in a wonderfully active scene. It's an intense listen to be sure, but one that is well merited and deserves a few spins.

The desperation and torment showcased on Deus Qui Non Mentitur is that of a band searching for a god who does not lie. Instead they find themselves on this blasted heath of a world. Ba'a are a one of a kind band, who have clearly invested countless hours into this project ensuring it's something that you can get lost in and which will repeatedly drive the listener to the brink of sanity. It's a masterful offering and one that I certainly will be coming back too. Deus Qui Non Mentitur is a must-listen for black metal addicts and I think the future of this band will be wonderfully bleak.
