Mortiferum/Hyperdontia - Split

This record is fucking disgusting. Longtime fans of the genre know that Mortiferum and Hyperdontia are two of the most talked about bands in the underground these days. Their blasphemous assaults have impressed fans across the globe. Now both of these utter crushers are on the same split and it makes for some of the heaviest and vilest music I've heard all year. Though a mere seven inch, the two bands are able to craft something skull crushing and wonderfully evil. This is what death metal was meant to be about. 

When one blasts this record you can practically see the caveman death metal fans dragging their knuckles across the floor - and that's what makes it great. Mortiferum kick off the split with nearly eight minutes of pure death doom. It's a terrifying offering that really speaks to just how talented the band is. It's ominous and powerful, dragging the listener to hell and back. Meanwhile Hyperdontia mix it up with a more hectic approach reminiscent of classic Morbid Angel. Their tight angular riffing and wall of sound approach beats the listener over the head and forces them to choke on the gloriously bitter pill. Its the perfect bone grinding counterbalance to Mortiferum. 

This is a seven inch that is guaranteed to bash your fucking head in. It's incredibly heavy and evil, leaning into the magic of the genre and playing to the tropes. This is death metal done right, executed at the lowest of tunings and forcing listeners to understand the truly face melting magic of the band. There is something wondrously horrifying about this approach and getting lost in the bloodthirst and slaughter of the band is delectable.
