Aberration - III

Now this is an existentially terrifying one. The oppressive crush of Aberration's new offering III is an atmospheric death metal war cry to a god that failed. This is a record that evokes the power of the death metal gods of old and infuses the unique sound with its own unholy blasphemies and indications of much darker and weirder futures. It's the sort of record you can get lost in and which will leave you clawing at your face as you scramble to regain your sanity. Dungeon dwelling and epic in scope, III is fifteen minutes of devastation. 

There is a sense throughout III that volume alone does not turn the wheels of this record. Instead it is fueled by a variety of demented elements ranging from the eerie synth padding to the guttural vocals that really scrape at the psyche. It's an exercise in death metal pushed to logical extremes forcing listeners to deeply embrace the madness within. The band has built on old ideas here to craft something exciting and in many ways new. It's a testament to the tormented and weird offerings of old, a record that points to twisted new futures and demented old realities. III is a record you can continually get lost in if you just delve deep enough. Yes - this may be an offering that alienates more mainstream fans - but guess what? That's kind of the point.

III is the sort of straight up blasphemy that death metal nerds like me live for. It's high powered hate driven by drop tuned guitars and an overarching sense of doom. III hints at twisted new futures to come and leans into thrilling new blasphemies with each passing track. Though this is a relatively short offering, the twisted layers within guarantee high replayability, leaving death metal addicts like myself enthralled with all the tormented ululations that Aberration have to offer as we sift through the rubble of our minds after another thorough blasting.
