The Junkyard Birds new release Free Wheeling Free Will is a testament to maniacal and fun rock and roll. A logical extension on the work of MC5 and The Stooges the Junkyard Birds are filled with that brilliant energy that made those early punk bands shine. This is a band that is not afraid to tell it how it is and go out and explicitly shock people. They are fun and crazy and truly capture the magic of late 60's Birmingham. This is one of the few modern acts that I know of that can really make this sound work and come across as genuine. Part of this might be the diaspora of influences ranging from the well known (Black Sabbath) to bands I don't even know about (Church of Misery). They know how to get the sludgy magic of Blue Cheer as well as the genuine insanity of The Who. So go check out the Junkyard Birds, their passionate heavy rock will knock you off your feet!
