So every once in a while I come across a band with an extremely metal name, bands like Embryonic Devourment. In most cases the group can't meet the potential that their name promises, I'm glad to say Embryonic Devourment is a glorious exception. Their hard hitting Revocation inspired sound is on the cutting edge of Technical Death Metal honing a truly dark sound with touches of grind and brutal death thrown in for flavor. The raw evil prevalent throughout Vivid Interpretations of the Void is fascinating, and makes their album into a death metal epic.
Their is a crushing power throughout this record, a circle pit instigating fury that all trve death metal lovers will find enjoyable and brain crushing. The roaring licks fly around the fretboard and give the record a certain grindcore madness that helps to give the record a fast and loose feel, despite the highly technical guitar work. As I said before, a lot of this stuff reminds me a lot of Revocation, yet it tends to be a lot more aggressive and go for the throat, violent and pit starting. All of the jazzy mastery of Dave Davidson is matched but then redoubled with a Slayer-like ferocity.
Suffice to say, Embryonic Devourment is one of the best up and coming bands of 2013. As I start my fourth listen of their record I'm fully realizing that I have found something truly special. Filled with incredible riffs and simply vicious vocals Vivid Interpretations of the Void is going to bring death metal to a whole new level. Rife with the potential to be the next Revocation (or even bigger?) I am very excited to see what the future holds for Embryonic Devourment. This is a band who are truly doing something special and I think that they have the promise to breathe new life into a very much stagnant scene.
