Old Head-Maximum Rock

A band featuring members of Brutal Truth, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Total Fucking Destruction, and Azure Emote? And they play hard rock not grind? What is this madness and how is it so good? You see, Old Head's new record Maximum Rock is indeed what hard rock should be. Violent and filled with blazing grind breaks Maximum Rock drags you in and refuses to ever spit you out. An album that combines a variety in a way that just works this is potentially the future of hard rock. A group who know how to turn up to eleven and bring on the party Old Head are doing great things with their music.

The most impressive thing about this release, for me, is the way they capture a pure rock and roll spirit, yet inject it with so much raw energy that it becomes something more. Old Head are not afraid to play fast and the way they blaze out of the gate on some of these tracks is simply mind blowing. Yet the songs are still very much accessible to a more casual hard rock fan. Once you get hooked on for the ride their really is no escape from the unending and blaring speed of this record. A final note, the groups singer is really quite talented. With the voice of a god he writhes up and down this release, firmly rooting everything in old school hard rock and keeping the grinding madness in check, usually. The occasional descents into chaos just add flavor and reveal the magic behind the madness of the musicians.

In conclusion, Maximum Rock seeks to open up a new era for rock and roll with ten tracks that fuse genres in a way that, to my knowledge, has never been done before. Often chaotic but never out of control Old Head make for an addictive listen and this debut leaves me begging for more. It's been a long time since I heard a rock record that had this level of sheer energy to it and hard riffing madness. I for one can not wait to hear more from these guys, while this debut may be stellar, I could see Old Head taking things to a whole new level and becoming even better in the near future!
