Ultra satanic death metal with an unpronounceable band and album name, well it doesn't get much better than this. Unaussprechlichen Kulten are a Chilean death metal force, a band torn from the crypt who don't follow the rules, but instead tear their victims apart, piece by bloody piece. With unholy vocal lines coming searing out of my speakers alongsides blasting guitar riffs, it feels almost as if the band are trying to summon Baphomet himself with their new record Baphomet Pan Shub-Niggurath, a dastardly album title if there ever was one.
A large part of the appeal of Baphomet Pan Shub-Niggurath is the fact that Unaussprechlichen Kulten clearly revel in the evil of their sound. Track titles like The Hooded Baphomet Bleated and Spirals of Acrid Smoke show a band who unabashedly embrace the darkness. The riffs here are great too, with bits and pieces of black metal in the mix they stir up a high energy attack that screams of pure satanic evil. The more melodic touches that come occasionally on the bridges actually add a lot of flavor, even if they are by no means a focal point for the sound. Instead, it gives everything something to come back too, guiding your way on this bleak left hand path.
The purely evil guitar fills and insane solos found on pieces such as Nomen Mysticum kind of sum up the rapid fire aggression of Unaussprechlichen Kulten's sound. Baphomet Pan Shub-Niggurath is the sort of record that embraces raw undulating evil, beat it in the ferocious blast beats or vocals that scream of the spirit of the underground. This is not a band to be taken lightly, and if you underestimate them, they might just grab your throat. So fall into the darkness and try to find a way through the pit crafted by a band who are veterans of a decade and a half of South American death metal evil.
