Riot V-Unleash the Fire

I'm having a pretty crappy day, so it's nice to be reminded every once in a while of the eternal glory of power metal. Riot V are exactly what I needed, their new record Unleash the Fire is the kind of triumphant and fun loving release that reminds me why I love this genre so much and why I need it to go forward. Twelve tracks (and one live cut) of video game-like power metal glory have helped me start to turn a mediocre Friday into a slightly better one. Perhaps power metal truly is the answer, the thing that will set us free.

See, the whole beauty of Unleash the Fire is that Riot V have been able to capture all the fun of power metal, but also been able to inject a healthy dose of rock and roll along with touches of video game music. The powerful vocals ring out over top of the hard hitting riffs, riffs that seem to deliver the sort of clean cut punch that allows this kind of music to succeed. These guys have a great songwriting sensibility, allowing them to convincingly pull off some song ideas that most might find corny or ridiculous. There is not boundary that can not be overcome by Riot V, and it allows the songs on Unleash the Fire to ring out glorious.

As I let these glorious guitar lines flow over me I start to feel a sense of purpose. I have found ultimate liberation through the triumph that is Unleash the Fire a fun record that isn't going to be forgotten anytime soon. These sort of power metal bands are the things that make us raise our chins and go about our days with pride. Riot V understand what this sort of music is supposed to be all about, and despite their silly frills, this is what's going to allow us to stand tall. So come on in and feel the triumph of a band who seem destined to take over the world.
