It's always nice when you get sent a record that you didn't even know was coming out - especially one that's a collaboration between two of your favorite bands of all time. N.V. is a Dragged Into Sunlight/Gnaw Their Tongues joint effort and is a stunning ode to the darkness and the incredible sorrow of mankind. There is a sense of tortured madness here that transcends almost anything else coming out today and has helped to establish, for me at least, the glorious and fucked up realities that both of these groups try to portray.
There is something wonderfully demented about what these bands do, and it's always defined their discographies. As they come together you find that the bands compliment each other rather nicely, having composed something that resonates nicely with the listener. The tortured screams and weirdly inspiring and vaguely industrial passages are only a part of what makes N.V. so fascinating. The fact of the matter is that both of these bands are known for creating epic and grandiose masterpieces that speak to the misanthrope and maladjusted nihilist in all of us. With every crushing chord and every eerie serial killer inspired voice over you find yourself delving ever deeper into the sublime murk.
The all out assault of a song like Absolver speaks to what these bands are caable of. Theyreach right into your soul and pull out the darkest and most demented momnets, giving us something to cast our eyes into as we suffer together. The sulime darkness of N.V. is enough to give even the most jaded black metaller pause. These are bands that have made their name on being the darkest and bleakest acts out there, and this record only builds on the torment - so come and suffer with us, the cleansing power of the music might be just what you need to survive.
