Au Champs Des Morts - Le Jour Se Leve

Formed by members of two of my favorite black metal bands, Anorexia Nervosa and Vulv, Au Champs Des Morts have rapidly made a name for themselves as one of the premier acts on the French black metal scene. You see - though the night is dark and full of terrors, Au Champs es Morts understand the inherent misery of the human condition and will guide you through, piece by screaming piece. Their new seven inch, Le Jour Se Leve is 15 minutes of modern black metal slaughter that will carry you through.

The power of Le Jour Se Leve comes in the beauty of the compositions. The way that the band tear out of the gate with powerful riffs that remain sufficiently shimmery and delicate as to keep you in love with their refined glory is stunning. Au Champs Des Morts is a band who capitalize on the strengths of the French black metal scene but are unafraid to bring their own elements in. Le Jour Se Leve is stunning, the use of synths and the balance of dark and light is wonderfully executed, and though the record clocks in with only two songs it's hard to deny that it is not part of something far greater.

So come with me, come get lost in this record and fall in love once again with the true meaning of black metal. Not a lot of bands can come out with a fully fledged and stunning sound right out of the gate - but Au Champs Des Morts have. Le Jour Se Leve is a cleansing sonic experience and one that reminds us why we need to be coming back to this music again and again. There is something antediluvian, triumphant and beautiful with what the band has done here and they are guaranteed to take you somewhere you have never been before.
