The Age Of Truth - Threshold

Stoner rock is a fascinating genre because despite a relatively limited musical pallet there are a lot of really interesting things that can happen within the confines of the genre. The Age Of Truth is one of those bands who take the genres traditional tropes and are able to craft it into something truly powerful. There is a weird and potent magic to what's being done here with their latest offering Threshold. This is an album that makes you ask questions, that grinds forward and reminds us time and time again where we came from.

I think the thing that really gets me with Threshold though is the warmth of the record. The guitar tone is simply spot on, you can practically sink your teeth into it, and that just makes me want more and more. Simultaneously there is a certain endearing magic to the gruff vocals, as if you find yourself getting lost in something far more potent than any of us can wrap our heads around. Threshold is an album that sweeps you up in its arms and then punches you in the gut as it brings you back to reality. It's so easy to get lost in this album because despite the use of stoner rock tropes there is a certain breadth to the sound that you can't help but to lose yourself in.

When it comes down to it, Threshold is fun because there is a very real emphasis on hooks and riffs. You find yourself jamming along to tracks like Come Back A God because they feel like classics. Sure the idiom is distinctly 2017 but that doesn't mean that The Age Of Truth don't periodically scratch something that is timeless. Sure the band has a lot of limitations and sure there's a lot of polishing that needs to be done for The Age Of Truth to meet their full potential, but the bones are good, and that's really damn exciting.
