Welp - it happened - after six year of waiting, longing for a step past the horrible mistake that was Illud Divinum Insanus Morbid Angel are back to doing what they do best, skull fucking death metal. There is a bloodthirsty insanity here, a demented assault and throat ripping anger that helps to make this band among the most important in the death metal world. I gotta say, I was worried about this one. In a year when death metal reigned supreme I was nervous that the forefathers might not deliver to that they should, and yet here we are with a certified banger.
Fill to the brim with crushing fucking riffs, insane compositions and the same sort of searing technicality that made us all fall in love with the band all those years ago it's a treat to get to really sink your teeth into what Morbid Angel have done on Kingdoms Disdained. As one of the biggest death metal bands in the world they are pretty consistently under the microscope and there was a lot of speculation leading up to this release. Folks weren't sure what to expect from the old masters, would they continue to experiment or do what they did best? Kingdoms Disdained is stunning though, a record that fits right in with classic Steve Tucker era Morbid Angel without compromising on modern polish.
There has always been a certain meatiness and enchanting demented majesty to Morbid Angel, and the band has always realized this. They come at you with a sense of swagger that is only matched by the sheer talent of the band. This is the sort of death metal record you find yourself getting lost in time and time again because when it comes down to it Morbid Angel are and always have been among the best and the brightest. Back and cracking skulls in rare form it's very difficult not to fall in love with Morbid Angel all over again.
