Y'know - it's nice when you can find something and say 'that is undeniably black metal'. Such is the case with Nuclear War Now!'s latest signing, Blasphamagoatachrist, yes, you read that right. This band is that gloriously satanic. Featuring members of Blasphemy, Goatpenis and Antichrist this is perhaps the most literal supergroup band name I have ever stumbled across The bands unique brand of furious and over the top black metal is delicious and speaks to the searing power that this genre has always had.
In a world where black metal is often prettied up or made cute for the hipster crowd, it is clear that Blasphamagoatachrist do not give a single fuck. Their crazed Kerry King-esque solos are manic, the riffs colossal and hinting towards everything from Bathory and Hellhammer to Darkthrone. There are moments of death metal and grindcore touches too which only adds to the unrelenting punishment of Black Metal Warfare. All of this creates the sort of nihilistic and magical soundscape that will keep you coming back. It's seven songs of sin and blasphemy, the demented and these wretched odes to fallen gods are going to keep you up at night.
Black metal tropes are tropes for a reason, they are fun and fucked up. It's reassuring to hear a new band who don't feel the need to subvert them but instead just love them for what they have come to mean. Blasphamagoatachrist uses Black Metal Warfare to make a bold statement against society, one that brooks no surrender and seems to only get more intense the deeper you delve into the record. While this isn't for everyone, this is the sort of thing that trve black metal fans will find and then promptly sell their twisted souls too.
