Horrendous - Idol

Horrendous are one o the most interesting bands in the underground right now and it's crazy to believe that this latest offering Idol is the groups fourth full length since 2012. These incredibly productive heavy metal psychopaths have made a name for themselves over the past gew years a s a death metal band who full get it and with this record they fin themselves getting it at a level they never have before. Not only that but, Idol is a record that elevates the group into prog death royalty, building on earlier promise to showcase their now fully evolved sound.

I think what gets me about Idol though is the fact that despite being progy, it's proggy in the way Death was proggy. It is more than the staid technical wankery that defines much of the modern state of the genre. This is music that has flash, potency and feeling. The groups sheer panache is exciting and speaks to a larger overall vision. It speaks to a band who grow and evolve with every passing record and one who seem to be hurtling towards greatness. The chaotic magic of a song like Soothsayer is pit inspiring, but it also leaves you saying, "Holy shit are these guys good!" and that's an exciting thing to me.

Don't think for a minute that these Philadelphia maniacs are just aping Death though, there are a broad variety of influences, and like I said, a significant larger vision. If you aren't ready to really sink your teeth into a sense of doomed destiny that has fascinated metal fans for years now then don't dive in. This is a record that will get you freaking out from the first spin but with which every passing note becomes even more interesting. Horrendous write some truly deep music. They write music that is incredibly exciting and engaging. Get ready revel in it.

A lot of silly errors in your first paragraph, it's not a race to get your review out.
