Pkew Pkew Pkew - Optimal Lifestyles

Pkew Pkew Pkew are one of those fun and powerful indie punk band sin the vein of Pup that are starting to rise up and dominate the underground rock mainstream. they make for addictive listening from a band with a distinct vision and a powerful sound. This speaks to the sort of middle American struggle that we so often see brushed over. With anthemic and fun choruses that betray the surprising simplicity of the band Optimal Lifestyles is a deliciously put together indie punk record that eagerly encourages multiple listens.

In some ways Pkew Pkew Pkew remind me of the Menzingers, just a bit more in your face, heavy and straight up punk rock. The lyrics outline the harsh realities and sense of meaninglessness that can define your twenties. They speak to the simple nihilism of waking up to going to your shitty job and trying to figure out what the hell is going to happen next. This is couched in comforting minor key melodies that seem to speak to a shared nostalgia. These are the songs that run through the veins of those of us raised in suburban America looking for a way out and trying to drive through to the next steps but seem stuck in a system that failed. Pkew Pkew Pkew understand the crushing day to day we all face.

This is a refreshingly honest, powerful and at times funny record. Sure the execution isn't always there and sure there are elements where it's clear Pkew Pkew PKew are still trying to find their voice, but this is what it takes to grow. This is a band with clear drive and an addictive sound. This is the sort of record I see myself putting on repeat for days on end. It's an easy listen and a touch silly and it's everything I want out of an indie punk record. Maybe through it all there is hope and one day it might just get better.
