Manegarm - Fornaldarsagor

In a post folk metal bubble bursting world, Manegarm have continued on. The fact of the matter is that the band has been doing this for nearly a quarter of a century now. They were here before the boom and they are now here after. Through it all they have always crafted some of the worlds best folk metal. Their latest offering, Fornaldarsagor is a thrilling listen. It's emotionally deep, powerful and a fitting tribute to their heritage. Simultaneously this is one of the best composed records that I have heard all year.

What gets me about this record is that its very tastefully done. While there are certainly the 'Amon Amart' bits, and at other times a more melodic approach, through it all they are distinctly Manegarm. On this record the band show that no matter what the trends might be, they have a deep understanding of this music .Their take on the stylistic fusion isn't just immaculate, ii'ts thrilling and executed with class. I n a genre that so often feels like a tasteless moneygrab, Manegarm have put together something that is truly transcendent and powerful. I didn't think I would be raving about that much folk metal in 2019, but here you go. This might be the folk metal album of the year.

Fornaldarsagor is a triumphant offering. It's perfectly produced and yet extremely human. It's bombastic and over the top bit you can absolutely see where the musicians are coming from. While many of you might roll your eyes at the thought of a folk metal record, this album proves the band has so much to bring to the table. This album proves that not only is folk metal alive and well but that there are bands out there staying true to the spirit of the genre and executing with aplomb. This is a thrilling listen and one you should by no means miss.
