Isole - Dystopia

Man - it has been too long  since we last heard from Isole. With a five year gap since their last record, the longest such gap in the bands career it has been painful. the epic doom masters are back with aplomb though and are once more ready to devastate eardrums, this time on Hammer Heart records. Their unique brand of Bathory worshiping transcendent epic doom has once more caught my heart and reminded me why I fell in love with this band in the first place.

In their years of absence the level of execution that the band brings has only grown. Dystopia sees some of the bands most impressive guitar and vocal performances to date. Toss in a rhythm section that really locks in with the magic of a track like Written In Sand and you start to get a sense for just how good these guys are. The addition of Victor Parri on drums definitely feels like an upgrade for Isole. Dystopia takes the listener on quite the journey and every further step that you take with these guys feels like a dramatic growth for the band hinting at new levels of transcendence and metal magic.

Long story short, Dystopia is a fun record. It is bombastic and over the top. Sure it's been half a decade since we heard from Isole last but it's clear that these guys are still in it to win it and have the same passion now that they did back then. Dystopia is a booming record and one that reminds us there is still cool stuff to be done in epic doom. Hammer Heart Records knocked it out of the park on this one and it feels like a very real step forward. Now to hope that we can get the next album a bit sooner!
