Cannabis Corpse - Nug So Vile

It's insane to me that Cannabis Corpse as been a band for 13 years, is six albums deep and STILL finds death metal songs to make pot jokes about. You'd think that it would get tired, but when it comes down to it - Cannabis Corpse are one of the most consistent death metal bands in the game. Nug So Vile is a masterful release and one that doubles down on everything that has made the band so special. After all - what other band is going to give you death metal songs that parody Cryptopsy track titles?

On Nug So Vile Cannabis Corpse continues to lay out death metal that continues to be a fitting tribute to their musical ancestors, bands like Cannibal Corpse and Obituary. With the circle pit inspiring stomp of a track like Blunt Force Domain counterbalanced by vicious riffing and devastating breakdowns it's easy to see that Nug So Vile is a monster of an album. It seems that six albums in, Cannabis Corpse have found a wonderfully consistent strategy to push themselves. This is a twisted record and one that acts as a logical next step. While some aspects certainly feel a little more technical than previous releases, Cannabis Corpse aren't exactly bringing the surprises on this one.

There is something weirdly addictive about the music of Cannabis Corpse. There always has been. It's a band who have perfectly distilled the magic of the genre and then revamped it with pot themed lyrics. In many ways, Cannabis Corpse are the essence of what a death metal band is supposed to be, musically speaking at least. Nug So Vile is a wonderful of what a death metal record can be when executed at the highest level. If that's not something that at least piques your interest this is not the blog for you.
