Bolzer - Lese Majesty

In just over a decade Bolzer have been able to establish themselves as Swiss ambassadors of the next generation of true black metal. The bands high powered approach has driven them through a whole mess of EP's and splits as well as their sole full length, 2016's Hero. Now the band is gearing up to drop their next EP, the masterful Lese Majesty. This is a record that continue to emphasize Bolzer's black metal excellence. It's four tracks of black metal slaughter that never fails to impress even the most jaded fan.

It seems to me that calling Lese Majesty an EP might be a bit of a misnomer. At 29 minutes it practically is a full length. The longer tracks, A Shepherd In Wolven Skin and Ave Fluvius! Danu Be Praised represent Bolzer at their absolute finest. The bellowed invocations over Ave Fluvius! Danu Be Praised in particular carry the listener off to the bands native Swiss alps. The sense of atmosphere that Les Majesty creates really speaks to all that Bolzer has done in the last eleven years of activity. The fact that the band execute this as a mere two piece also really speaks to the high level of execution they bring to the table.

There  is obviously meant to be something transcendent about Lese Majesty. The more time I spend with this record the more I am enamored with the rainfall of drum blasts and roaring guitars. This is a band who clearly have a deep appreciation for modern black metal. The frequent comparisons to acts like The Ruins Of Beverast and Grave Miasma make a lot of sense after spinning a record like this one. Lese Majesty is a masterful step forward for these Swiss black metal devotees and I can't help but to be impressed once more.
