Battle Dagorath have been among the worlds best atmospheric black metal bands for a few years now. Their massive sound with its crushing guitars, soaring synths and devastating growls has always made for a unique musical journey. This record continually seems to push on the legacy they have been building for over a decade now. It takes that atmospheric black metal magic that put them on the map and seems to only capitalize on everything they have done right in the past, ensuring a bold new future.
Abyss Horizons is the sort of record that can't help but to capture the imagination. The soundscapes they paint are just too vast and the overarching vision just more powerful than anyone could have imagined when this band was just starting out. As a general rule the production is stellar. Tracks like 'Conjuring the Starwinds' really speaks to Battle Dagorath's overarching songwriting prowess. They have a sort of ethereal magic here that is brought down to earth by the very human power of black metal. If you clsoe your eyes though you'll find yourself carried off, journeying across the galaxy and fueled by black metal.
I like records that are vast in scope. I always have. Abyss Horizons is one that simply feels massive. There is a sort of elegant and tormented poetry to what they are doing here that serves to make their music endlessly engaging. Battle Dagorath is a stunner from top to bottom. It's a record that fascinates and mesmerizes going above and beyond every day of the week. This is one of those albums that really fulfills the potential of what black metal can be and has me coming back time and time again in complete awe.
