Stygian Temple - In The Sign Of The Five Angles

Now this is a scorcher. Black metal is meant to be gloriously satanic and Stygian Temple are exactly that. Their record is called In The Sign Of The Five Angles for Christ's sake! There is a devilish magic to  what the band has been able to conjure up on this record and the transcendent power that they bring to the table is truly exciting. This is a band who are above and beyond so many of their peers simply through their dedication to the ultimate cult magic that they so eagerly revel in. This is the darkest of the dark.

In The Sign Of The Five Angles captures the imagination with its bombastic and largely than life ministrations to a time forgot. The orthodox black metal frills here are grandiose and fascinating. It's hard not to be mesmerized by the intense magic of the band. This is a record that goes for the throat unrepentantly. As you lose yourself in these massive waves of sound you realize Stygian Temple head very close to the true twisted roots of black metal. The reverbed out vocals and tightly wound guitars come together to form a soundscape that borders on the intimidating. It's a lot of fun to really sink your teeth into what they present here though.

Tormented and over the top In The Sign Of The Five Angles hints at darker Lovecraftian realities - and isn't that why we all fell in love with this stuff in the first place? This is a record that reeks of the raw energy, might and magic of black metal. It constantly fascinates with its bleak ministrations and seems to eagerly push ever above and beyond. It's a record that will force you to face the darkness and the more time you spend dwelling in it the more it becomes clear that Stygian Temple are the mad beasts of their own creation.
