The grinding madness of this band comes at you at a million miles an hour and plays into countless wonderfully vile death metal tropes. This record is hectic and powerful, building on the legacy of bands like Autopsy and Asphyx and proving that this uniquely tormented brand of death metal is going to continue to capture the imagination and crack skulls for decades to come.
The simple fact of the matter is that Returned To Life is filled to the brim with sick fucking riffs. It's just that easy. The opening death doom crush of 'Mental Suicide' is instantaneous proof that Altered Dead are a one of a kind death metal legion. Their willingness to drive people straight into the pit is delightful and the precisely executed manic madness of these songs speaks to their inherent bloodthirst. Altered Dead play into basically every single old school death metal trope on this album, but that's a huge part of what makes them so special. Returned To Life continually sees the band eagerly driving towards devilish futures, and I love it.

Each and every riff is delivered with the precision of a hammer blow and it leaves the listener shattered. They simply get what makes death metal great and do it brilliantly on Return To Life. Sure there are a few nitpicks here and there, but in terms of straight up skull crushing death metal one need not look much further than the madness within this album.
