Dread Sovereign are one of my favorite old school doom metal bands in the world. It's rare that you find a group who so eagerly lean into the influences of acts like Reverend Bizarre. On their third full length we find Dread Sovereign more impressive than ever. The transcendent power of their ferocious and passionate take on doom shines forth and leaves listeners utterly entranced with all that the band has accomplished here. Alchemical Warfare is a masterful offering that builds on the past legacy and hints at so much more to come.
There is a strange and elegant poetry to this record. The beauty of Dread Sovereign is their willingness to look far beyond the normal confines of doom metal in order to help fuel their band. The influence of bands like Hawkwind bleeds through on expanded psychedelic passages. Meanwhile, some of the faster moments with their galloping rhythms remind me a bit of Venom. The range of influences is fascinating and deep. It hints at new layers within layers and leaves listeners like me eager for more from this doomed congregation. There is a level of mastery in the execution here that really only comes with years of hard work. It makes for a unique sound and a potent listening experience.

(Yes, the guy from Primordial) He will guide you deep into the pit and give you a chance to examine the 'bloody pages of history' and learn to reject a false god. There are simply so many layers here that you can become entranced with, and yet it is delivered in a somewhat straightforward way.
