Torresian Call/Welldweller - Split

 

You've got to love black metal splits that evoke the magic of the underground. Such is the case of this joint effort between Torresian Call and Welldweller. It's a record that ties into the power of the scene, that evokes blackened futures and which routinely captures the imagination of fans. These two bands are crafting lo-fi and blasphemous black metal that can't help but to stun and delight listeners. It's a record that is clearly deeply enamored with old school black metal magic leaving fans in awe with the primal hate within. 

Torresian Call kick off the split with five devilish tracks. They are lo-fi to an extreme. Certainly not the sort of thing that entry level fans are going to get into. However, if you are the type of person who is deeply devoted to this music and the torment within you are going to find quite a bit to love. It's weird and stripped down, but that's the beauty of the Australian black metal project. Meanwhile, Welldweller have contributed a single ten minute long song. It's tormented and powerful. The sort of twisted offering that leaves listeners in awe with its dialed back magic. Again - the band lean into the lo-fi aesthetic, and that's what helps to make it such a rewarding listen. 

This split is typical of the genre. Alienating, powerful and delightfully evil. Torresian Call's contribution to the genre is delightful. It's twisted and magic. The sort of thing that devout black metallers obsess over. Meanwhile, Welldweller turn around and make things beautifully tormented, leaning into some of the darker sides of the genre and wrapping up the album with a gorgeously blasphemous acoustic outro. Weird and powerful, it is a delight to get lost in these dark ministrations. Will you join the madness?
