Grief Collector is a veritable doom metal super group featuring members of Signs of Rain and Among The Serpents, but also the legendary Robert Lowe formerly of Candlemass and Solitude Aeternus. His voice reigns supreme on this record, a hefty trad doom offering that captures the imagination with even a relatively stripped down instrumentation. It's the sort of record that speaks to the core nature of the genre. It's a delight to really sink your teeth into what the band is doing and to appreciate the crushing layers of heaviness they embrace.
While nothing on En Delirium is necessarily new, the execution is what counts, and it is excellent. There is a breadth to the execution on this record that makes for some truly delectable listening. The bass playing in particular is spectacular, providing a real sense of decoration on tracks like 'Scorned Heart.' Meanwhile the shreddy playing on 'Misery Mongers' adds a dash of classic metal flash to the trad doom soup. It's the sort of record that really offers up a lot to love and unpacking the various layers in what's being done here is a delight. It speaks to a classic sort of doom that can't help but to capture the imagination.
