Boy Cry Wolf

Boy Cry Wolf is a progressive rock band from the Gold Coast, Australia. It formed in July, 2012, and consists of four members; Dylan Harris (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Scot Rose (lead guitar, backing vocals), Christian Kafritsas (bass guitar) and Tristan Stonhill (drums, percussion, backing vocals). They are known for their unique sound, catchy lyrics and their high-energy live shows. They are soon to enter the studio in early October, with a four-track EP being produced/developed. They have released their debut single, Area 52, on both their Facebook and Triple J pages. It's five minutes long, and consists of catchy riffs and relaxed vocals. Now I have to say that I don't really listen to that much progressive music, but I have to say that this is an impressive piece of art. It's not as distorted or heavy as the likes of other modern progressive bands such as Dream Theater or Twin Atlantic, but it has more of a Pink Floyd vibe to it, something that the modern music industry is missing. I have seen that a lot of progressive bands (at least the ones I've listened to) nowadays rely a lot on heavy guitars and maxed out distortion; and that's cool! I have nothing at all against that. It's just that I feel like there's a little bit missing, a bit that used to be there. And that was Pink Floyd. With their mix of calm, experimental and unique sounding music, they really set the bar for many more artists to come after them. Now, it seems like Boy Cry Wolf is about to take and revive that spot once again. The minute I heard Area 52, I knew that this was a band of potential. And boy, they have loads of it. I'm interested in what they will produce/develop next, because I've got my bets on this band becoming one of the next big things in progressive music. So, do I recommend them? Yes, of course I do! You'll be able to find Area 52 on their Facebook or Triple J pages, and it's available to download as well. I'm nearly positive that their coming EP will be available to download too. As I've said before, I'm really intrigued by their sound and am interested in what they will release next. Hopefully an entire album after their coming EP! So here's a quick recap and rating of the band so far. I hope you enjoyed my review!
