The Voids are a very interesting prog metal band with a layered sound that reminds me a lot of bands like Haken. They have a very powerful sound that is made even more so with their excellent arrangements. The guitar riffs are very powerful and I really like how there is a manic side to the playing even though the songs are very precise in composition. This adds a lot of energy that a lot of prog bands are lacking. Meanwhile the bass work is pretty heavy, there are some pretty cool bass parts under the acoustic lines, it could be described as jazzy at its best. But the bass really shines during the heaviest bits where it adds a lot of heaviness to the riffs and really helps the band go the extra mile. The drums are precisely executed, but like the guitar they have a lot of energy in them. The crashing cymbals add an almost garage rock element that is very tasty. The keys are not always present but when they are they add a lot of atmosphere and only occasionally take the lead line. It adds a lot of flavor but it does not dominate the music, I feel like this is a good place for the keys in the mixing of these tracks. The vocals are predominantly in growls.  They are very brutal and have a lot of the old school death metal energy that makes bands like Death so cool. However the clean vocals are also pretty good and they have a very polished and beautiful edge to them that makes me wish they had more of a presence in the songs. In conclusion, The Voids are a powerful prog band who, with a few more songs, and a little better production could be the next big thing.
