Marla Mase is an interesting funk/punk/experimental artists whose music often defies words. It is at once complex and easily digestible, heavy and light, dark and beautiful. I love the layers created by the music. The dichotomy between normal singing and spoken Lou Reed type parts is very well done, it helps to give the music an interesting layer where normally there should be none. The guitar work is jangly yet features a handful of really cool solos and melodies that help make the album really interesting. I also really like the way the rhythm section adds some funk rhythms to the more straightforward bits to make the music more interesting overall. Lyrically this album is also very good. I really like the chorus of Piece of Peace, it makes me think about the hippy culture of the 70s. Overall, Marla Mase is a truly interesting and unique artist who should engage many a fan of punk and more abstract rock.
