ASG-Blood Drive

The latest release from Relapse Records Blood Drive is ASG's first release in 6 years. And I must say it has certainly been worth the wait. A heavy stoner rock record that shows the power of a great riff Blood Drive sweeps the listener off their feet and carries them away into a rainbow land of sex drugs and rock and roll. (And none of this poser crap either) Blood Drive is a pure rock record reminiscent of the magic of Blue Cheer or even the more modern Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. Out next week Blood Drive should make some waves in the stoner metal scene.

The riffs on this record have an impressive swirling power to them. They can both throw the listener around or gently caress your ears. The balance is incredible and makes the record tasty and worth many a spin. On my third listen there are still lots of fascinating nooks and crannies in the sound that engage the listener. The vocals have a certain operatic quality to them too which helps to make the music especially interesting. A great example of this is on the epic verses of Hawkeye which show how surreal the bands sound can get, it leaves behind any semblance of reality and instead embraces the more stoned pastures of songs like Sweet Leaf.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a crushing record with lots of fun rock and roll riffs to bang your head to and a suite of pulsing and powerful songs then Blood Drive is the album for you. It will suck you up and hold you in thrall to the modern day rock and roll magic that is so apparent in Blood Drive. Not without its darker side ASG will appeal to many, not strictly metalheads. After more than half a decade without a release ASG fans should be enamored by the glorious sounds of Blood Drive. These 12 tracks will keep you listening for hours on end.
