Lurking, Unscarred, Hemoragy and Izegrim at Le Klub

I stumble off the metro and back to that legendary hell hole, Le Klub. I met up with some bands and check out the group soundchecking. And so began what was to be my last night, for this summer at least, at Le Klub. As always the venue was great, wonderful for moshing and stage diving their isn't a bad seat in the house. (Also I found the optimal air conditioning zone, so YES) The sound was wonderful too, the perfect mix of in your face and bone crushingly awesome. The bands were all stellar picks (As is the norm with Les Acteurs De L'ombre) and it truly was a memorable evening.

First up was Lurking, their werewolf themed metal was charming and powerful. Their 6 person wall of death (yes, I participated) went off surprisingly well. Their marvelous frontwoman, Delora, does a great job of mixing cleans with growls. (The bassist provides some growls too) It gave the music JUST the right amount of bombast and kept things dynamic. Their entire set was fresh and exciting, each song brought something new to the table. I really liked when they played their track Betrayed, definitely a highlight for me. All in all, Lurking provided an excellent introduction to the soiree with their powerful (if tiny) frontwoman and hard hitting songs.

Then came Unscarred, who were for me the highlight of the evening. Fronted by the Iranian metal princess Niloofar these guys ripped the stage apart with their Huntress flavored thrash metal. Now HERE is a band who can decimate your ears with their incredible guitar attack. Their explosive frontwoman helps to keep things exciting with engaging stage banter and a strong connection with the crowd. This was the band that really got the crowd moving with their extremely tight instrumentalists. The bone crushing riffs served as a fitting backdrop to the anthems that were belted out with every song. This was one of the best performances that I have EVER seen at Le Klub. Suffice to say, these guys have IT and considering this is one of their first performances the future seems very bright for these guys.

Hemoragy came up next, and though they were frustrated with technical issues they played a very impressive set. I liked the solos and the twin vocalists provided a fresh side to the groups sound, it created something very interesting to watch. They played off each other wonderfully and created a veritable spectacle. At the end of their set a man dressed as Jesus came on and passed around a communal beer keg in a sort of alcohol soaked heavy metal initiation ceremony. I felt this was especially relevant to some of the younger audience members. (Some of the kids were like 14) Overall, Hemoragy are a band I would love to see again, they are a treat to see live.

And now we have the headliner, possibly the last band I'm going to see in a summer where I went to almost too many concerts. Izegrim deliver about an hour of throat ripping thrashy melodeath. Their bestial frontwoman embraced the heart of the Dutch metal scene and held it up for us Parisians to see. Smiling and clearly having a good time the dudes in Izegrim were fun to see play, they simply understood what metal is about and wanted to spread it to the people. A lot of good things are happening for this group and seeing how they explode into 2014 should be a very fun prospect, if you get the chance, check these guys out!

In conclusion, if this IS my last concert of the summer well it ended on a bang. As I head for Oslo tomorrow my mind will be filled with thoughts of this evening. From the bombastic Lurking to the simply face ripping Unscarred things were wonderful. Hemoragy managed to rock right on through their technical problems and provide a fun and high powered set. Last, Izegrim embraced the very heart of heavy metal, showing the world that the spirit of the gods is not dead, but only growing for all to see.

On a final note, I will be taking a break from Two Guys for the next week while I am in Norway, expect good stuff when I get back!
