Wolvserpent

In 2013 'Heavy Metal' has become kind of an amorphous outdated term for anything with growls and loud guitars. So what about an album that does all that, yet seems to transcend the genre with a sheer humanity that few poets have ever been able to touch? What about a band whose string suites are just as important as everything else? What I'm trying to say is that the new record by minimalist quasi metal lords Wolvserpent, Perigaea Antahkarana does exactly that. This is more than a heavy metal record, this is an extension upon the souls of the musicians.

The thing about this record is that a lot of it is very abstract and 'out there' yet, it is strangely appealing. Their may be no fist pumping riffs or mosh parts but their is something greater and more powerful. In fact, I feel that comparing this record to any other heavy metal bands would be completely perverse. I'll just address it for what it is, and what it is, is completely unique. The atmospheric sounds that give Perigaea Antahkarana depth are such a key element to the music (is it even music or something greater?) may be hard to latch on too but they are strangely beautiful. The string parts are especially excellent and give strength to the music, pushing it to a whole new level.

What I'm trying to get at is that Perigaea Antahkarana is unlike anything you've ever heard before, or probably will ever hear again. While comparisons could be drawn to some of the other Invisible Oranges favorites Wolvserpent seem to be wholly free in their songwriting. They do not latch on to any norms and instead create something that allows for a part of their collective soul to rub off onto yours, carrying the listener away onto a beautiful spiritual journey. With Perigaea Antahkarana Wolvserpent create an incredible state of spiritual nirvana and you shouldn't miss it for the world. Catch it when it comes out September 17th on Relapse!
