Tribune-Tales

And here we go, another innovative and exciting modern metal record that brings us a great mix of cleans and growls with no silly metalcore breakdowns. Here is an album from a band who get it, a band who understand what they want to do, and do it in an intelligent and logical manner such that we get a record that mixes cleans and growls but comes off as entirely appropriate for the scene, metal for a new generation. With vaguely progressive stylings and lots of powerful riffs, I for one think their new record Tales is a powerful sophomore full length release!

One of the things that makes this record so cool is the lyrics. You see, Tales is a concept album based off the works of authors like H.P. Lovecraft, H.G. Wells and even Homer. Put these lyrics together with a great and natural seeming mix of cleans and growls and you know you're on the way to something special. What's great about this record is that their are a variety of growls, so much so that when the cleans come in they just feel like a natural progression on the screams. Toss in some really wonderful Lamb of God inspired riffs and you start to realize the potential Tribune have. Their tight riffs come across with a real punch and songs like Red Crescent are simply excellent.

In conclusion, with these nine tracks Tribune manage to make some very cool and exciting metal music that shows a way forward for the bands who wish to combine cleans with growls. While maybe not on par with the latest from Anciients Tales is still pretty darn incredible, breaching this relatively new genre of metal with a ferocity that I am sure will become their trademark. If you're looking for an album from a hot young band that has the potential to really go far then Tales is something you're going to want to check out. Their vicious riffs and vocal triumphs will keep you in thrall for many a spin.
