So some of you may remember Mammoth Salmon from my review of them back in June, suffice to say, their doom laden sludge metal impressed me right away. Well now they are back and better than ever with their new release Call of the Mammoth. On this new record the songwriting is clearly much tigher than on the previous Internet EP 2 and they have clearly advanced as a band. The highlight of this five song disc is probably the ultimate track, Eulogy, it is a testament to the sheer heaviness of the band and proves how much better they have gotten. The way these guys slowly trudge forward with hearts of steel and a sound ripped from the abyss is very impressive and I could see Mammoth Salmons signature tunes taking them far. So sit down, and turn it up, Mammoth Salmon are coming for your head and their new record is just proof of how good they have become. This is a force to be reckoned with and the super heavy sound of the Mammoth will smash your bones to powder.
