I'll admit, going into this review I was not super excited to write about Amputated. I wasn't previously familiar with the band, but the cover art, song titles and various other promo materials led me to believe that they would be the kind of generic gore metal band that give extreme music a bad name. Their new record Dissect, Molest, Digest is eleven tracks of gore metal madness. Not a lot of bands get this extreme and handle it with pride, yet Amputated clearly have no problem handling the most brutal and bone crunching of musics.
One of the most important things to know about the sound of Dissect, Molest, Digest is the mix of deeper growls with harsher shrieks. It reminds me in some ways of the sort of duality found in the music of Napalm Death. The mix between blazing speed and slower breakdowns furthered this sort of grindcore flavor. Yet, the riffs are all clearly in the death metal style. From the chug patterns to the chunkier riffs, these guys have clearly studied up on their gore metal roots. Then again, having been around for twelve years, it would make sense that Amputated know how to write some truly top notch gore metal songs, the sort of music that will blare and rant across the ages.
In other words, what I'm trying to get at is that Amputated really understand the true magic and inner evil of gore metal. The way that they come out and rip the listener limb from limb is simply unforgettable. Amputated have come out and with their third full length they have proven that they are truly on top of the gore metal game. If you want a record that will reach out, rip your throat out with incredibly rapid riffs and then stomp your face in with crushing and destructive riffs galore then Dissect, Molest Digest is the album for you, come out my friends and embrace the gore!
