Groovy thrash metal from Australia Ghosts of Black River is the kind of thrash band who mix circle pit inspired madness with some slower, down tempo grooves. The crushing power of Ghosts of Black River comes from a dominating bottom end (which could be made even bigger). As is though, Ghosts of Black River show a lot of potential. There is a sort of deepset power to this bands music that shows their ability to rock an altogether higher level. One thing I'd like to see is a more aggressive vocal approach. As is, it's pretty solid, but when their singer lets up the music loses a bit of its beautiful brutality. To put it this way, I prefer when Ghosts of Black River lean more towards Black Label Society than Metallica. As Ghosts of Black River improve though I could see these minor flaws being easily ameliorated. Already they have a lot of cool ideas and I would love to hear how they bring them forward in the future. As for now, groove metal dudes get ready for what could be your new favorite unsigned band!
