Thunderwar-The Birth of Thunder

Yes there is a band called Thunderwar, and yes, they are kind of awesome. Yet contrary to what you might think, Thunderwar is not some silly power metal band, instead they are cult death metallers who are proof that the Polish scene still has some good stuff to cast upon the earth. A scourge to all mankind Thunderwars new EP The Birth of Thunder is four songs of death metal madness, fast, vicious and brutal with a dedication to all that is heavy. Rough and destructive The Birth of Thunder is the kind of release that speaks to the heart of the death metal community.

At first it was a little hard for me to get into this record, the production isn't always top notch and the vocals are pretty rough. Rather than the tightly controlled death growls that many of us are used too by now Thunderwar use some more chaotic and violent growls. Yet when you really get down to it, Thunderwar get it. These unorthodox and insane growls are a big part of the sound. They help to craft an aura of madness throughout The Birth of Thunder. In fact, I would go so far as to say that, at their best, they remind me of some early Mantas and Death recordings. I think this is the kind of raw and primal evil that Thunderwar are going for and once you realize it, you have to love it.

Sure there are only four songs here, but this is really a promising start for these Polish metalheads. The whole attack of the band is impressive, the way they drive forward leaving no cross unturned speaks legions to their dedication to metal. So let your hair down and start windmilling, Thunderwar understand the spirit of death metal and are bringing it back to the people. Old school and unadulterated I am excited to hear what Thunderwar will come up with next. Not a lot of bands have this kind of dedication to brutality, and I have to say, I really like it!
