Okay, can we just come out and say that 2014 is the year of rock and roll already? Already this year has seen more exciting rock and roll records than we have had in decades. Joining the likes of groups like Supercharger, Jackson Firebird, and Gyspyhawk, MACH22 are another top notch rock and roll band to hit the scene. These Philadelphia boys have already been praised by the likes of radio titans like MMR, the station that first got me into any form of heavy music. Groovy and triumphant Sweet Talk Intervention is a testament to the power of rock and roll.
Here's the thing that I really dig about this record, it does not try to fit in the 'modern hard rock' genre. Rather than being whiny and having precisely calculated parts, Sweet Talk Intervention has a very jam oriented feeling. This is found from the top down, with some ferocious vocals lying on top of the mix and very groovy drums providing the forward momentum. I also want to take a moment to point out how excellent the guitar parts are here. They are just so spicy, be it in dynamic solos like the one off of I'm Just a Man or the crunchy riffs that dominate the record from the very first track, they create a true aura of rock and roll madness.
In conclusion, Sweet Talk Intervention is one of the greatest rock records to come out in years and is a proud testament to the neverending triumph of this kind of music. I for one am very excited about the way that rock and roll has been moving forward as a genre lately and I think that MACH22 could be among the leaders of the charge. Instantly memorable rock and roll music I am excited to hear how this band develops. I sincerely hope that when I move back to the Philadelphia area I'll be able to dig in and see these guys rip it up live!
